20:00Defying norms, embracing the unknown | Haarika Mandalapu | TEDxIAREHaarika Mandalapu’s journey defies conventions at every step. She is the first woman from Telangana to complete a solo ride to Umling La Pass, the highest motorable road in the world, standing at over 19,000 feet. The challenges of this ride are immense: extreme weather conditions, oxygen deprivation, treacherous roads, and unforgiving terrain. It’s a feat only the most determined dare to attempt. And Haarika did it, setting a record in the Telugu Book of Records. But this achievement is just a glimpse of her story. Like many others, she tried to fit into the expectations set by society. She studied engineering, a path often leading to a stable corporate job. But she realized that wasn’t her path. During her college days, she discovered something that gave her deep sense of fulfillment - volunteering. Instead of going ahead with campus placements and choosing a corporate life, she chose to work with NGOs, dedicating herself to social work and making an impact on people’s lives. And her journey didn’t stop there. She later went on to study acupuncture, trying to understand the world of healing and wellness, an unusual path for someone with an engineering background, but one that brings her deep satisfaction. She also enjoys traveling and exploring new places, something that continues to shape her journey and outlook on lifeSo, if you ever feel trapped by expectations, remember Haarika's story. You don’t have to fit into a box. In fact, you don’t even need a box. Make your own path, and ride it to the highest peaks, just like she did. Riding to Umling La Pass, the world’s highest motorable road at 19,024 feet, is no easy feat. Freezing temperatures, low oxygen, and rough roads make it one of the toughest rides in the world. But Haarika Mandalapu took on the challenge solo and became the first woman from Telangana to do it! Her achievement even earned her a place in the Telugu Book of Records.Haarika is also an acupuncturist by profession, dedicating herself to wellness and holistic healing. She has always believed in making a difference. During the COVID-19 crisis, she led relief efforts with 400+ volunteers and worked with NGOs to uplift education in underserved communities.
