Clean Grief | Caryn Dooner | TEDxUBC
Talking about death is considered a taboo topic, and I hope that by talking about it I will help people be more open about their wishes around death & dying. By knowing and communicating what you want before and after death, it can make your life less stressful and make it easier for your loved ones. Caryn worked as a nurse on Vancouver Island after graduating from UBC. Most recently she worked in adult ICU, the same unit where her aunt died 15 years ago. Since working as a nurse through the pandemic and witnessing many people and their loved ones cope with unexpected death, she learned a lot about what one can do to prepare for the last part of life. Caryn has an interest in helping people live healthier lives and is currently pursuing her MD at Queen’s University. She also volunteers as a Director on the Board of the Pacific Public Health Foundation in an effort to address the upstream causes of health inequities such as the toxic drug crisis. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
