Why movies matter | Namita Ventrapragada | TEDxHeritage HS Youth
What if there was a way you could travel through time and space— without leaving your couch? Whether you like to watch action-packed blockbusters, sentimental musicals, or hilarious childhood movies, every film is more than just entertainment. In this speech, Namita explores the importance of movies: how they let us explore our own emotions as well as places, times, cultures, and stories far different from our own. With film references and heartfelt anecdotes, she dives into the psychological, scientific, and social benefits of movies. Namita is a sophomore at Frisco Heritage High School. With this event marking her second year as a TEDx speaker, she believes it is a great way for people to share what they are passionate about and learn from others. She recognises TEDxYouth as an incredible platform for change as it gives a voice to people that are usually not listened to, such as teenagers like her. The topic of her speech is why society should love and appreciate movies. Namita, who grew up watching movies everyday, sees them as a beacon of expression, learning, and exploration. Through her speech, she hopes to share how something so simple can open all of our minds greatly. Namita is passionate about friends, family, reading, writing, medicine- and of course- movies! After High School, she hopes to pursue a career in the medical field, specifically as an anesthesiologist while keeping time for public speaking and spending time with her loved ones.
