Every Choice Is a Teacher | Alaa Sharif | TEDxCambridge Intl Kurdistan Youth
In this deeply personal and inspiring talk, Alaa Sharif challenges the conventional notion of mistakes. Drawing from her own journey—from facing the heartbreak of failing her university thesis to overcoming burnout and cultural identity struggles—Alaa shares how she transformed setbacks into powerful lessons by owning her decisions. She explores the pressure of perfectionism, the importance of seeking help, and the courage it takes to embrace life’s uncertainties. Alaa invites us all to shift our mindset from blaming mistakes to recognizing choices as valuable teachers, empowering us to take responsibility and find meaning in every outcome. Her story is a testament to resilience, self-compassion, and the strength found in vulnerability. Alaa is a graduate of Cyber security and advocates for mental health awareness in Kurdistan. - 13:19The art of taking risks | Taufiq Islam | TEDxYouth@NIATaufiq explores the art of taking risks, pushing past fear and uncertainty to chase what truly matters. He breaks down how stepping into discomfort isn’t reckless—it’s necessary. His talk challenges us to stop waiting for the “right time” and start choosing courage over control. Taufiq is a student leader, public speaker and a firm believer that a well-delivered speech can do more than just fill time. It can spark ideas and inspire new conversations. Currently studying in year 13 and pursuing engineering at Qatar University simultaneously, he has spoken at conferences like the Qatar Leadership Conference (QLC) and TEDx. Using his platform to bring a unique, cross-cultural lens to his speeches, making complex topics both engaging and thought-provoking. With a background in Model United Nations (MUN), where he has earned multiple awards, Taufiq has learned the power of well-crafted arguments and compelling storytelling, slightly inspired by Dead Poets Society. For Taufiq, a great speech leaves people with something to think about long after the applause, leaving them with questions and ideas that encourage personal growth and a shift in perspective. - 12:41You Suck | Yibela Gebretsadik | TEDxWJHS YouthI’m a teenager applying to various colleges later this year, and during this process, I’ve had to curate an identity that I could present to these colleges. Thus began my journey of self-improvement—both physically and mentally. I wanted, and still want, to become the best version of myself so that when I apply to these colleges, I feel the utmost confidence in who I am.However, while on this journey to developing a true sense of confidence and identity, most teenagers and adults alike hit one major roadblock on the path to success: a lack of honesty. Many don’t get started because they refuse to accept either their current standing in life or how much they must do to achieve their goals.I’m here to teach those people exactly that. You don’t start with your looks, you start from within. You start with honesty. Hello everyone! My name is Yibela Gebretsadik. I am a rising senior aspiring to study International Relations at a four-year university during the fall next year. When not drowning in my studies, I participate in various extracurricular activities both outside and inside of school! My favorite thing to do is getting to know others from diverse backgrounds. And that’s where I found my love for public speaking - through representing these various communities.
