Popular Culture and Education | Rosinha Ceilda | TEDxVárzea Alegre

They exemplified how cultural roots could be the foundation for powerful transformations. They used handicrafts, an expression of popular culture, as a means to generate social and economic impact, especially for women. Their work not only preserves cultural identity but also drives local development by providing financial autonomy and empowerment to women in the region. In doing so, they demonstrated how cultural roots could be the driving force that moves and transforms communities.Description: Known as “The Mocotó Girls,” Rosinha and Ceilda are living symbols of tradition and resilience. Deeply rooted in the Cariri region’s culture, they have kept alive the culinary heritage, particularly through the preparation and sharing of mocotó, a traditional dish that brings people together. Through their stories, flavors, and presence in local festivities, they demonstrate how food, memory, and identity are powerful expressions of culture. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
