A meritocracia promete um mundo onde o sucesso é uma recompensa direta do esforço. Mas o que acontece quando o ponto de partida não é igual para todos? Nesta palestra, a estudante Beatriz Fontanive Peixoto usa exemplos de sua própria vida e do cotidiano brasileiro para argumentar que a meritocracia, como conceito, é uma ferramenta que perpetua a desigualdade. Ela defende que, em uma sociedade tão diversa, é cruel tratar os desiguais com igualdade e que a crença de que o sucesso depende unicamente do esforço serve para mascarar as vantagens de classe, raça e gênero. Por isso, questiona as narrativas de "self-made men" e a ideia de que "a favela venceu", mostrando que o sucesso individual, embora inspirador, não representa uma mudança coletiva.
