Alchemizing Grief Through Salsa Dance | Pleshette Strong | TEDxNorthwesternU

Afro-Latin dancer Pleshette walks us through her journey to the world of Salsa dancing. She recounts the hardships that led her to the dance floor, her struggles learning dance as a plus-sized woman, and, ultimately, her sense of triumph throughout the experience. Pleshette began her Salsa journey in 2016 and has since immersed herself in Afro-Latin dance. She advocates for inclusive dance spaces as a plus-sized dancer and emphasizes the importance of adult hobbies. A Southside Chicago native, she is passionate about the connections between Afro-Latin and Afro-American music and dance. Through dance, she transforms the challenges of her 20s into a lifelong passion. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
