Sergio Bianchi, Professore Ordinario di Matematica Finanziaria presso “La Sapienza” di Roma e International Professor Affiliate alla New York University (NYU), analizza la fragilità dei mercati attraverso il crollo del fondo Long Term Capital Management (LTCM). Il fallimento di LTCM fu causato da modelli matematici privi di memoria che sottovalutavano la frequenza dei Cigni Neri (eventi estremi imprevedibili). In quanto autorità nel campo dei modelli stocastici e della valutazione del rischio, Bianchi spiega che l'approccio antifragile, al contrario, sfrutta la volatilità e la turbolenza del mercato (come dimostrato dal volatility index) per trarne beneficio. Mostra come l'acquisto simultaneo di opzioni call e put (strategia straddle) permetta di guadagnare quanto più il mercato subisce un "terremoto". Questo concetto è alla base della strategia del bilanciere, che combina investimenti sicuri con piccole scommesse ad alto rischio che capitalizzano sul caos. Laureata in Giurisprudenza alla Sapienza durante i turbolenti anni delle contestazioni studentesche, ha portato nel suo lavoro un approccio non convenzionale, fondato sulla cooperazione tra l’istituzione e il territorio. È nota al pubblico per il recupero e la salvaguardia dell’archivio storico del carcere borbonico di Santo Stefano, un’operazione che ha restituito alla comunità un patrimonio culturale di inestimabile valore.
