Echoes of Tradition | Jaipur Kathak Kendra & Shubhankar Sharma | TEDxIIHMR U
Echoes of Tradition The Jaipur Kathak Kendra, established in 1978 and formally inaugurated on 19th May 1979, preserves the rich tradition of the Jaipur Gharana, a distinct style in the classical dance form of Kathak. Since its inception, the Kendra has been a hub of excellence where hereditary masters and eminent gurus have nurtured countless students, passing down generations of knowledge and artistry. Legendary gurus such as Babulal Patni Ji, Gauri Shankar Ji, Kanhaiya Lal Javra Ji, Charan Girdhar Chand Ji, Jagdish Gangani Ji, Rajkumar Javra Ji, Rekha Thakar Ji, Manjari Mahajani, and Sangeeta Singhal Ji have contributed to its legacy, while numerous workshops by renowned artists have enriched training. The Kendra has also hosted festivals showcasing stellar performances by gurus and disciples alike. Today, Guru Chetan Kumar Javra, son and disciple of Guru Rajkumar Javra, continues this tradition, teaching young students the intricate beauty and discipline of the Jaipur style of Kathak.Shubhankar Sharma, a young sitarist from Banasthali Vidyapith, began his musical journey in childhood learning tabla from his father, Shri Uma Shankar Sharma. Drawn to the sitar, he started training under Dr. Ankit Bhatt and now hones the intricacies of the Imdadkhani Gharana and gayaki style under Dr. Vinayak Sharma and Pt. Debajit Chakraborty. Blending discipline with passion, Shubhankar is emerging as a promising voice of the next generation of Indian classical music.
