How to find your inner clown, and why it’s worth it | Carla Francome | TEDxKU Leuven
What can growing up in a family of clowns teach you? Carla Francome delves into her personal and workplace experiences, and explores how humor can truly help you handle any situation. Carla Francome spent over two decades as a TV Producer/Director, and in her spare time, built up a following of over 16,000 on social media as an award-winning cycle campaigner. She now does communications and marketing for a small tech company.Whatever she's been working on, and whoever she's been talking to, she's always drawn on one part of her life for the skills she needs - the decade where she worked as a professional clown. Carla grew up in a family of clowns - and performed with her mum and her dad. In her talk, she will be explaining what she learnt when in a red nose and wig, and what you can learn from it too. - 9:13Living in harmonious dissonance | Aarsh Pandey | TEDxGEMSInternationalSchoolIn this inspiring TED Talk, the speaker reflects on the concept of "Harmonious Dissonance"—the idea that true growth and authenticity emerge not from perfect harmony, but from embracing life’s tensions and contradictions. Through personal stories, cultural insights, and a vivid musical metaphor, the talk reveals how differences and conflicts don’t cancel each other out but enrich and complete us. It encourages audiences to accept complexity, celebrate contradictions, and find genuine harmony amid life’s chaos and societal pressures. I always try to put my best foot forward when it comes to academics—not because I have to, but because I see education as a privilege, a chance to learn something new every single day. But there’s more to me than just academics. I’m an active participant in Model United Nations and especially enjoy the fast-paced energy of crisis committees. I also hold a black belt in karate and was proud to win the silver medal at the Asian Karate Championship in 2023. Music is another big part of my life—I’ve been playing classical guitar since 2024. When I’m not studying or training, you’ll probably find me on a long walk in nature, immersed in a game, or watching a good movie. - 6:09Embracing Life’s Beautiful Conflicts | Kavya Gupta | TEDxGEMSInternationalSchoolIn this insightful TED Talk, Kavya Gupta explores the concept of "Harmonious Dissonance" — the idea that life’s most meaningful growth comes from the tension and contrast we experience rather than perfect harmony. Using vivid examples from fairy tales, personal stories of friendship and conflict, and reflections on silence’s power, she shows how clashing elements can create something beautiful together. Kavya invites us to embrace life’s complexities with curiosity, compassion, and openness, discovering that true harmony often lies in navigating dissonance. I'm Kavya Gupta, a Grade VII student at Adani GEMS School of Excellence. I may be young, but I truly believe that age should never limit big ideas. I'm endlessly curious and always full of questions—sometimes a few too many, as my parents like to say! But I believe every “why” opens the door to something new. Whether it's an unusual fact, an interesting story, or a fresh way of looking at things, I love learning and figuring out how the world works. I'm driven by passion, excited by questions, and I’m only just getting started. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
