Why Art? | Dr. Subodh Kerkar | TEDxSMS Youth

Subodh Kerkar is a renowned Indian contemporary artist and sculptor, best known for his innovative and thought-provoking works that often explore themes of ecology, history, and the ocean. Originally trained as a medical doctor, Kerkar transitioned to art in the late 1980s, bringing a unique perspective to his creative practice. He is the founder of the Museum of Goa (MOG), a prominent art space that has significantly contributed to the cultural landscape of Goa and India at large.Kerkar’s art frequently incorporates natural and found materials, and many of his installations are site-specific, engaging deeply with the geography and cultural context of the region. His work has been exhibited internationally, reflecting both a deep local engagement and a global outlook. Through his artistic vision, Subodh Kerkar continues to challenge conventions and inspire dialogue around pressing social and environmental issues.
