En küçük bir söz ya da eylem, farkına bile varmadan birinin hayatında derin ve kalıcı bir iz bırakabilir. Şebnem Doğruer, 1964 yılında memur bir baba ve ev hanımı bir annenin ikinci kızı olarak dünyaya gelmiştir. Babasının memuriyeti nedeniyle Türkiye'nin çeşitli şehir ve kasabalarında büyümüştür. İlkokula Denizli'nin Kale ilçesinde başlamış, Acıpayam'da devam etmiş ve en son İzmir Karşıyaka'da tamamlamıştır. Ortaokul ve lise eğitimini de aynı şekilde Karşıyaka'da tamamlamıştır. Üniversite eğitimini Hacettepe Üniversitesi Ankara Devlet Konservatuvarı'nda almış ve 1984 yılında mezun olmuştur. Aynı yıl İzmir Devlet Tiyatrosu'nda çalışmaya başlamış ve 41 yıldır oyuncu ve yönetmen olarak mesleğine devam etmektedir.
