Gen Z's Chinese Whisper of Information | Lakshana S | TEDxUnion Christian Public School Youth

In a world driven by algorithms and short-form content, how much of what we share still holds its true meaning? This talk explores how meaning is reshaped and diluted in the age of social media. Using popular trends as examples, it shows how ideas of solidarity or self-improvement can often become performative. It’s a reminder not to let powerful ideas be reduced to bite-sized nothingness. S.Lakshana, a tenth grade student, has always been fascinated by visual arts, Philosophy, Psychology, Science, and especially digital culture. The world of videos, posts, and blogs is familiar to Lakshana, as she grew up almost entirely online during the lockdown. Her talk highlights the inauthentic and performative nature of people online today, and how something that may seem like a harmless trend can have its own adverse effects.Outside of this, Lakshana is a blunt yet reserved individual. She is always looking for something new to learn or experience. She enjoys drawing, graphic design, public speaking, listening to music, and watching TV shows. Lakshana hopes to make the most of every opportunity that comes her way. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
