9:39Problem Child to Principal: Unlocking Human Potential | Dr. Kristilynn Turney | TEDxEnsley Avenue EDIn her TEDxEnsley Avenue ED talk, “Problem Child to Principal: Unlocking Human Potential,” Dr. Kristilynn Turney challenges the belief that identity is something assigned by systems, labels, or circumstances. She reveals that identity is often formed in the moments when individuals choose who they will become, even when no one else is choosing them. Through this lens, leadership is not rooted in titles, authority, or permission, but in belief. When people rewrite the stories placed on them and intentionally define who they are, they develop the kind of strong identity that fuels courageous leadership capable of transforming minds, schools, and entire communities from the inside out. Dr. Kristilynn Turney is a leading consultant, speaker, and author whose more than 25-year career in K–12 education has been defined by a commitment to literacy, equity, and transformational leadership. From her early days as an English teacher to becoming the first Black principal of two suburban schools, Dr. Turney has consistently worked to elevate student achievement, strengthen school culture, and bridge gaps within diverse communities. What drives her is a deep belief that every learner deserves to be seen for their potential, not defined by labels.
