How AI could help save newborn lives | Dr Puneet Sharma | TEDxAtlanta

Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) is a heart defect that affects 20%-60% of preterm babies. Neonatologist and AI researcher Dr. Puneet Sharma takes us inside the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to reveal how AI is helping save the lives of premature babies by detecting heart conditions faster and more accurately. But this talk isn’t just about technology, it’s about trust, compassion, and keeping humanity at the center of innovation. Dr. Puneet Sharma is working to build a future where AI-driven solutions give newborns the best possible start in life.Supported by the National Institutes of Health and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Puneet’s research focuses on harnessing artificial intelligence to enhance diagnosis and treatment strategies in neonatal medicine. He is an assistant professor of pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine and a neonatologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. His work combines cutting-edge research with compassionate care to improve outcomes for critically ill newborns.Puneet completed his pediatrics residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Harvard Medical School, where he served as chief fellow. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
