Today's children will be the last generation to witness a healthy ocean. However, while it is too late to reverse the causes behind this grim reality, there is still time for us to act and reduce the harm greatly. Anders delivers us a message of hope - that the difference between life and death of the ocean lies in small acts that we can take to make a big difference! Having started diving at eight and certified as a Master Diver at 14, the ocean holds a special place in Anders Thomas Flood's heart. A student of Prince of Wales Island International School in Penang, Malaysia, he has been a passionate advocate for sustainability and has been actively promoting environmental conservation through photography and filmmaking. An aspiring wildlife photographer and filmmaker, the tropical rainforest and marine landscapes of Penang has been Anders' playground as he honed his skills capturing the state's natural beauty, while working alongside local conservation organisations. His first documentary feature, Coexistence, produced with the support from the Langur Project Penang and the school's Eco Committee, highlights the struggles of the city's monkey population and drives home the importance of co-existence between man and nature. This feature was released in 2024. He is presently working on new projects which he looks forward to share with the global community soon. She works as a Circular Impact Officer and spokesperson of the Swedish circular economy business network Cradlenet, and is also one of the co-founders of the Nordic Circular Hotspot, a collaboration platform for accelerating circular economy in the region. She has also recently become a Founding Member of the Circular Economy Coalition - an international coalition of value-aligned individuals and organizations collectively advancing the circular economy through shared tools and resources, bridging the Global North and Global South. For many years she worked as circular economy expert at WWF Sweden, where she developed the international circular economy network Baltic Stewardship Initiative, to enable the recirculation of nutrients in the Baltic Sea region in the agri-food sector. Elin also practices what she preaches and stopped flying 12 years ago for climate reasons, and instead takes the train or sails to her destinations, she is a vegetarian since 25 years, stopped consuming unnecessary things and clothes and only buys second hand and vintage if she needs anything and have had many “no consumption at all” years. By doing this and still looking good and professional on the world stages she shows that living within the planetary boundaries is not hard and you can still look good and have a wonderful life doing it. Controlling one’s instrument through extensive technical prowess has long been considered the ultimate goal of a successful musical practice. But, does something even more fruitful lie beyond technique? In this talk, Chris Froh addresses some of the benefits of moving beyond the goal of virtuosity in music and our lives. Percussionist Christopher Froh specializes in promoting and influencing the creation of new music through critically acclaimed performances and dynamic lectures. To date, he has premiered over 150 chamber and solo works by composers from 17 countries. His collaborations include some of the most significant composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, including Chaya Czernowin, David Lang, Steve Mackey, John Adams, George Crumb, Liza Lim, Matthias Pintcher, and Keiko Abe. Froh has also worked extensively, realizing percussion scores of player piano and fixed-media pieces by Conlon Nancarrow. This project culminated in a solo recital at the Whitney Museum in New York City and featured solo performances with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center at Alice Tully Hall. Froh’s performances have garnered exceptional critical praise. The New York Times heralded his interpretations of modern repertoire as “entrancing,” “alluring,” and “vividly wrought.” The Chicago Tribune has praised his “unfailing virtuosity,” while the San Francisco Chronicle described his performances as “tremendous” and “fierce and uncompromising.” The San Francisco Classical Voice writes of his playing, “Percussionist Christopher Froh has been an invaluable presence in the Bay Area … enlivening the contemporary music scene with performances of exceptional musicality and virtuosity.” Froh has performed works for solo percussion at venues around the world, including Alice Tully Hall, the American Academy in Rome, the Beijing Modern Music Festival, the Harris Theater in Chicago, the Hagia Irene in Istanbul, the Kennedy Center, and concert halls throughout Japan. He has been featured with leading voices in chamber music, including Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Music at Menlo, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
