Swimming Past Stigma | Prisha Tapre | TEDxMilton Keynes Youth
A single body, freezing water, and a grueling 21-mile swim. Most people would see this as a test of physical endurance, a chance to conquer a legendary challenge. But what if the real journey isn't across the English Channel, but within ourselves? In this powerful talk, 16-year-old endurance swimmer and changemaker Prisha Tapre shares her story of crossing the English Channel, not just to break records, but to break the silence around mental health. As one of the youngest British Indians to complete this feat solo, Prisha uses her remarkable achievement to illustrate how pushing our physical limits can be the ultimate tool for confronting our inner fears and challenging the stigma that often holds us back from our true potential. This is a story of personal triumph, mental resilience, and the transformative power of sport as a force for both personal and social change. Prisha Tapre is a 16-year-old endurance swimmer and changemaker who made history as one of the youngest British Indians to swim the English Channel solo. Her journey isn’t just about distance, it’s about courage, resilience, and showing young people what’s possible when we don’t give up.Beyond the water, Prisha is passionate about youth empowerment, mental strength, and using sport to drive real change. She’s raised thousands for charity and become a role model for others facing challenges. In her TEDx talk, Prisha shares how swimming through fear helped her grow stronger inside and why that same power lives in all of us. Prof. Dr. İsmail Tuncer Değim graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Pharmacy in 1985, earned his MSc from Gazi University in 1988, and completed his PhD at Cardiff University, UK in 1996. He became a Professor at Gazi University in 2009 and served as Dean (2012–2016). Since 2016, he has been at Biruni University. He has over 55 national and international publications, book chapters, and has served on editorial and advisory boards of several scientific journals. He holds patents on iontophoresis-based blood urea measurement, electrohemodialysis cartridges, and extended-release tablets. He received the Novartis publication award (2005) and Mustafa Nevzat Pharmacy Award (2012).
