What Happens When We Lose Ourselves To Tech | Victor Gbesimi Odele | TEDxJewels Leading Lights Youth

This talk, “What Happens When We Lose Ourselves to Technology," by Victor, is a soulful reminder that while technology connects us, it must not replace us.In a world obsessed with speed, screens, and seamless replies, what are we losing? Real connection? Emotional presence? Our own voices?Victor delivers a compelling and poetic reflection on what it means to live in the digital age—where bots write our birthday wishes, friendships happen through auto-replies, and even our children are raised more by screens than by society. With moving storytelling and deep insight, he challenges us to ask: Are we really living—or just existing behind glass? This talk is not an anti-technology rant. It’s a wake-up call to reclaim our humanity in a world that’s forgetting what it means to feel, to pause, to be fully present. From playground dust to handwritten letters, from real dinner conversations to messy love songs, Victor makes a passionate case for remembering the beauty of life before algorithms. Victor holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Information Technology. He is globally certified in IT support and project management by Google, Microsoft, and IBM, and also holds educator certifications from both Cambridge and Microsoft. He is a respected voice in digital safety and cybersecurity, having spoken at national platforms including the Nigerian Communications Commission. His dedication has earned him multiple recognitions, including the Academic Excellence Award for Teachers. His TEDx talk, “Imagine Our Lives Without Computers,” is a thought-provoking journey through the evolution of technology in everyday life—inviting audiences to reflect on the indispensable role of computers and the need to use them purposefully. Victor actively serves in The Discipleship Academy, a Christian community focused on nurturing parents, teens, and children in faith, purpose, and responsible living. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
