Building the future through stories | Carlyee Carrington | TEDxNokesville Women

What if the future your child grows up in depends on the stories they read today? What happens when kids don’t see themselves or others in the pages of their books? Carylee unpacks the quiet crisis shaping young minds and challenges us to rewrite the narrative. If you believe stories have power, you need to hear what’s at risk and what you can do about it. In her talk, you will discover practical ways to protect diverse stories and the future they help create. Carylee Carrington is an award-winning children’s author and literacy advocate. As founder of Read With Carylee, she promotes diversity in children’s literature and supports independent authors. Carylee is a two-time Northern Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit of the Year Award recipient, with partnerships including Commanders Read and the Washington Wizards. She regularly appears on Good Morning Washington and Living Local DMV, conducts author visits nationwide, and currently serves on the Boards of the Prince William County Arts Council and Northern Virginia Reading is Fundamental. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
