Overthinking: The Illusion of Control | Amy Cheng | TEDxWestern Canada HS

Amy’s talk reflects her experiences overthinking things and is largely inspired by her best friend who is the far more simplistic thinker. It is easy to notice the anxiety that can linger in many situations even when it is highly detrimental. As time goes on, it feels as though every problem gets larger and as more fears engulf the mind, it is important to remind yourself of the hidden power of simplicity. While the world constantly views overthinking and simplicity as a black and white situation, it is important to consider the complex dynamics of every situation. It is very easy to get caught up in the complexity of every situation and trap yourself in a vicious cycle. Amy is determined to provide ways to help the issue while also navigating the complexities of doing so. My name is Amy Cheng and I am a grade 10 student at Western Canada High School. I enjoy art, science and music in my free time. I also have a lovely cat I wish all of you could see. I have always wanted to spread my thoughts to others and hopefully inspire others. I can sometimes be a nervous person and I hope being able to speak to others about my thoughts can help others along with myself overcome this challenge. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
