Beyond Grades and Expectations | Yanxi Zhou | TEDxSt Georges Cologne Youth
We’ve all been asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” But for many of us, the answer is shaped by societal standards and expectations. We live in a world where academic outcomes are often valued above individuality, and where success is narrowly defined by grades and titles. Through my talk I want to shed light on the pressure that the education system places on students, and encourage you to redefine success, pursue your passions and embrace the freedom to follow your own unique paths free from rigid standards and societal judgement. Yanxi Zhou, Deputy Head Prefect at St. George’s The British International School, is an empathetic and ambitious student with a passion for encouraging and supporting others. As an active member of the Yearbook Club, a committed member of the student Council, and a dedicated history mentor, Yanxi strives to collaborate with others to create a more inclusive, supportive, and cohesive school community where every student feels seen and empowered to follow their own dreams and to set their own paths in life-despite external pressures. Prof. Mittal has published 120+ research papers, supervised 21 Ph.D. scholars, and guided 150+ MBA students.Awarded the IEEE Lifetime Achievement Award and Best Teacher Award, his interests include entrepreneurship, NEP-2020, and promoting Indian knowledge systems in education.
