6:11ARMC What's your WHY Wednesday #4In this month’s edition of “What’s Your Why Wednesday,” meet Louis Reier, D.O., neurosurgeon at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. When Dr. Reier was 15, he was paralyzed from a snowboarding accident, but recovered after months of physical therapy. After that experience, Dr. Reier became interested in the physiology of the brain and spinal cord and wanted to dedicate his life to helping others in similar situations. In his current role at ARMC, Dr. Reier cares for patients throughout the Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Department for cases involving pathology to the brain or the spine. He regularly draws from his own experience to bring compassion to the patients that he treats. Thank you, Dr. Reier, for all that you do! We appreciate you! #TheHeartofaHealthyCommunity
5:23ARMC What's your WHY Wednesday #3In this month’s edition of “What’s Your Why Wednesday,” meet Jennifer Steffler, a nurse in Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department. When Jennifer was 17, she was brought to ARMC as a trauma patient. Throughout her stay, it was the nursing staff who stood out to her with their kindness and thoughtful gestures. Jennifer came away from that experience inspired to go to nursing school and has now been a nurse at ARMC for 19 years. In her current role, Jennifer is also a preceptor for ARMC’s new nurses. She sees the opportunity to make a difference in small moments to help patients feel safe, valued, and heard, and uses that approach to teach new nursing grads to do the same. Thank you, Jennifer, for your compassion, constantly advocating for our patients, and sharing your story!
3:37ARMC Heals Trigeminal NeuralgiaTrigeminal neuralgia is a severe and debilitating condition that causes pain throughout one side of the face. For patients experiencing this nerve pain like Ricardo Garcia, diagnosis is often hard to come by. It wasn’t until Ricardo met Javed Siddiqi, M.D., Director of Neurosurgery at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, that he found a solution. Dr. Siddiqi performed a surgery that exposed the nerve and the blood vessels at the brain stem, separated the two, and put a cushion between them. Ricardo lived with this pain for 8 years and is now pain free thanks to Dr. Siddiqi’s efforts. We are proud of how our Neurosurgery team stepped in to help Ricardo, and urge anyone experiencing these symptoms to ask their physician.
