I gemelli ci conducono in un viaggio ai confini con l’impossibile, là dove l’evoluzione tecnologica spinge oltre i limiti. La tecnologia ha già trasformato ciò che un tempo sembrava irraggiungibile.
Eppure ci sono ancora sfide cruciali per l’umanità che i computer e l’intelligenza artificiale attuali non riescono a superare, o meglio, potrebbero farlo, ma impiegherebbero tempi inimmaginabili.
Per questo i fisici hanno inventato una nuova macchina: il computer quantistico.
Esso sfrutta le regole della meccanica quantistica per accelerare i calcoli, proprietà che per un essere umano appaiono così controintuitive da sembrare impossibili. Francesco Anna Mele è nato il 22 agosto 1997 ad Acquaviva delle Fonti (BA) e ha vissuto a Policoro (MT) fino al 2016. La passione per la Fisica nasce durante l’ultimo anno del liceo, grazie ai problemi “puzzling” proposti alle Olimpiadi Italiane della Fisica, in cui ottiene una medaglia di bronzo nella fase nazionale.Nel 2016 si iscrive al corso di Laurea Triennale in Fisica presso l’Università di Catania e vince l’ammissione alla Scuola Superiore di Catania. L’anno successivo si trasferisce all’Università di Pisa, dove consegue la laurea nel 2019. Nello stesso anno inizia la Laurea Magistrale in Fisica Teorica all’Università di Pisa e vince l’ammissione alla Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa come studente ordinario in Fisica.Nel 2021 ottiene la laurea magistrale e il diploma di licenza della Scuola Normale, e inizia il Dottorato in Fisica presso la stessa istituzione. Durante il dottorato, alterna periodi di ricerca a Pisa con soggiorni internazionali in diverse città: nel 2023 a Berlino, nel 2024 ad Amsterdam e nel 2025 a Los Angeles.La sua ricerca si concentra sull’informazione quantistica, ed ha un obiettivo chiaro: sfruttare la fisica quantistica per potenziare ed innovare la tecnologia odierna.Antonio Anna Mele è nato il 22 Agosto 1997 ad Acquaviva delle Fonti (BA) e ha vissuto a Policoro fino al 2016. Dopo la laurea in Fisica a Pisa e un doppio master tra l’Università di Trento e la SISSA di Trieste, è approdato a Berlino per il dottorato.Durante il suo percorso ha lavorato anche al Los Alamos National Laboratory, negli Stati Uniti, ed ha presentato le sue ricerche in numerose conferenze internazionali. È ricercatore in informatica quantistica alla Freie Universität di Berlino. Si occupa dello sviluppo di algoritmi quantistici, con un focus su Machine Learning e Tomografia: progetta algoritmi per ricostruire, apprendere e caratterizzare sistemi quantistici a partire da ciò che si può misurare in laboratorio.Il suo obiettivo è esplorare e spingere al limite le potenzialità reali dei computer quantistici.
