Indian Music - The Aural Oral Tradition | Mr. Ramesh Vinayakam | TEDxHindustan University
Decoding Indian Classical Music: The Gamaka Box RevolutionIn this captivating talk, Mr. Ramesh explores the profound differences between Indian classical music and Western music, highlighting the unique aural-oral tradition of Indian music, learned through rote memory under a guru’s guidance, in contrast to Western music’s reliance on written notations. While Western music emphasizes harmony, Indian music thrives on intricate melodies, unbound by a fixed musical script. To bridge this gap, Mr. Ramesh introduces the innovative Gamaka Box—a tool that uses symbols to interpret the complexities of Indian classical music.
