Storica e antropologa culturale, è direttrice del Museo nazionale svizzero dal 2021. Dopo una specializzazione in regia e produzione cinematografica, ha curato numerose esposizioni su temi come il Rinascimento, la storia medievale e il movimento femminista, combinando rigore scientifico e accessibilità.Da anni si impegna attivamente nella divulgazione, nella formazione accademica e in diverse commissioni, contribuendo a rendere il patrimonio culturale uno strumento vivo di riflessione sul presente. Denise Tonella è direttrice del Museo nazionale svizzero dal 2021.
