Rockets, Systems Engineering, and the Boundaries of Language | Changwu ZHANG | TEDxFuxingPark
As the founder of a leading domestic commercial rocket enterprise, Zhang Changwu and his colleagues successfully launched the world's first liquid oxygen methane carrier rocket into orbit, achieving substantial progress for China's carrier rocket and aerospace industry. The reusability of rockets is a process that evolves from scratch and then from existence to excellence. Zhang Changwu described to everyone a phenomenon that few are aware of: the boundaries of natural language are the boundaries of systems engineering. Landspace Technology Corporation (Landspace), founded by Zhang Changwu, is a leading enterprise in China engaged in the creation and operation of aerospace transportation systems. Established in 2015, it is a national high-tech enterprise and a member of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). Guided by national strategies and oriented by market demands, the company is committed to developing medium and large launch vehicle series using liquid oxygen methane as propellant, providing cost-effective and highly reliable launch services for the global market.
Landspace is the first private launch vehicle enterprise in China to obtain all access qualifications. On October 27, 2018, it completed China's first private launch vehicle launch. In July 2023, its independently developed Zhuque-2 became the world's first liquid oxygen methane launch vehicle to successfully reach orbit. In the same year, it achieved consecutive launch successes and carried commercial satellites. To date, Landspace has achieved 4 consecutive launch successes, and continues to focus on liquid oxygen methane rocket and reusable rocket technologies, aiming to achieve high payload, high-frequency and low-cost rocket launches, contributing to China's satellite networking program. - 12:00The marathon of recovery | Joel Teron | TEDxCUNYJoel Teron’s journey from addiction to recovery is a testament to resilience, transformation, and the power of harm reduction. After struggling with substance use disorder for 20 years, a heart failure diagnosis in 2021 became his wake-up call. Through recovery, he discovered running—not just as exercise but as a metaphor for persistence and self-discovery. Each step forward mirrored his healing process, proving that progress isn’t about speed but about showing up and moving forward. Now a harm reduction project manager and public health advocate, Joel is dedicated to changing the conversation around addiction and recovery. In his TEDx talk, he challenges stigma, highlights the impact of harm reduction, and envisions a future where public health policies support people at every stage of their journey. His story is a powerful reminder that recovery, like a marathon, is not about perfection—it’s about taking one step at a time. Joel Teron is a passionate public health professional and student dedicated to enhancing community health. With over three years in recovery, his journey fuels his commitment to public health advocacy and harm reduction. Balancing full-time work and studies, Joel is the harm reduction project manager at the Alliance for Positive Change and serves as President of the Health and Wellness Club at BMCC. He is pursuing an associate degree in public health and is expected to graduate in Spring 2025. His dedication extends to education and peer mentoring, having supported students as a supplemental instructor in BMCC’s Learning Resource Center. With aspirations to obtain a PhD in public health, Joel’s academic interests focus on health disparities affecting marginalized communities. An avid runner, he enjoys running through NYC’s streets and, in 2024, completed two half-marathons and his first full marathon at the TCS NYC Marathon. - 14:48The Words We Lose: Why Preserving Language is Preserving Identity | Andovi Da Lopez | TEDxUNDIPGrowing up across continents as a diplomat’s son, Andovi Janis grappled with a sense of cultural dissonance thinking in English while knowing in his heart he is fully Indonesian. In this talk, he explores how preserving language and culture is not just about tradition but about identity itself, especially in a hyper-globalized digital era. Through innovative projects like Pentas Swara Indonesia and Polarisasi Musikal, he demonstrates how art can breathe new life into local languages, music, and stories, proving that creative expression is a powerful way for young Indonesians to reclaim and celebrate who they are. Andovi da Lopez is a storyteller at heart, someone who’s always found ways to speak up, spark conversations, and move people through the things he creates. From his early years on YouTube with SkinnyIndonesian24, to projects like PENSI (Pentas Swara Indonesia) that gave space for young voices to be heard, Kak Dov has always believed in using media not just for content, but for purpose.Recently, he brought that same spirit to the stage through Polarisasi Musikal, a bold musical project that turned the nation’s most pressing conversations into a story-driven performance full of meaning, nuance, and heart. His work has shown how creative expression, done with intention, can carry culture, challenge perspectives, and become a form of legacy in itself.
