Why teach Classics in the 21st century? | Poppy Das | TEDxFrancisHollandSchoolSloaneSquare

When thinking of Classical works, it's easy to dismiss them as irrelevant: they were written thousands of years ago, in virtually dead languages, and reflect values that have long since fallen by the wayside. So why have they survived for so long? To properly understand this, I'll be detailing how Classical sources have been shared and taught over the years, and unpacking the ways in which they are closer to our modern society than we may first assume. Poppy Das is a 17 year old student taking A-Levels in English, Classical Civilisation and History of Art. She plans to study Classics and English at university, and has a particular interest in Classical reception. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
