Exploring the power of big data in our digital world | Doyoung Kim | TEDxCanterbury School Youth
Doyoung Kim shares his journey, insights, and transformative experiences to inspire audiences to rethink their approach to creativity, purpose, and resilience. With compelling stories and actionable takeaways, Kim demonstrates how looking at small pieces of information in the context of its neighbors can help us analyze big data and lead to meaningful impact. Doyoung is a senior at Canterbury School. After moving to the US from Korea in 2024 he has developed strong skills in data analysis and research, with expertise in algorithms and geographic information systems (GIS). His accomplishments include conducting research on the KNN algorithm and leading data-driven projects using GIS to analyze complex datasets. Academically, he has pursued rigorous coursework and independent projects that have further strengthened his foundation in data science and research methodology. Doyoung is passionate about applying data science to solve real-world problems and hopes to continue expanding this interest in college and beyond. Outside of academics, he enjoys sports and creative projects, which he feels keeps him balanced and motivated. Fast fashion is draining our planet’s resources, polluting water, and filling landfills at record speed. In my talk, I’ll share how recycling textiles, and rethinking our habits can turn students like us into leaders of real change. Tarini is a waste warrior, gender advocate, painter, published author and a TEDx speaker. She is a 2023 Diana Award Winner for her work in creating awareness about the need for proper sanitary waste disposal practices and according dignity to waste pickers in India. She distributed more than 1.5 million red dot stickers due to the support extended by her municipal corporator (https://projectashtami.com/). The red dot stickers are used to identify hazardous sanitary waste. She monitizes her art and uses the proceeds to fund groceries for aged waste pickers and fund scholarships for youth in rural Maharashtra, India. When she is not studying, she volunteers in the school library. She is co-secretary to the Peer Tutoring Club and the Treasurer of the Girls Who Code Club in University High School.
