- 17:24The wardrobe paradox: Why we can't let go of clothes we don't wear | Elias Mellander | TEDxGöteborgWhy do we have nothing to wear when our closets are bursting? Associate Professor Elias Mellander from the University of Gothenburg explores the hidden forces behind this universal paradox, presenting findings from Fashionable Detachments: Wardrobes, Bodies and the Desire to Let Go, co-authored with Magdalena Petersson McIntyre. Through intimate wardrobe interviews, he reveals how cultural norms and social expectations quietly shape our attachment to clothing and consumption. Prepare for those "that's exactly me!" moments as Mellander maps the invisible forces behind what we buy, keep, and reluctantly let go — showing how understanding these patterns could be the missing piece in fashion's sustainability puzzle.
