Making science simpler | Lim Seng Joe | TEDxUKM
Dr. Lim shared a talk about bridging the gap between science and society. With clarity and humour, he showed us that science isn’t some distant, cold discipline, it’s alive, dynamic, and relevant to our everyday lives. He took concepts that might seem intimidating and made them more understandable. Through tangible examples and everyday science, he translated complex nutritional concepts into digestible ideas, literally and figuratively. By showing how healthy food can be practical, affordable, and science-driven, he brought science back into our hands. Dr. Lim Seng Joe is an Associate Professor and Director of the Innovation Centre for Confectionery Technology (MANIS). A Registered Food Analyst and Professional Technologist, his groundbreaking research explores functional foods, edible bird’s nest glycoproteins, and fucoidan-rich ingredients from Malaysian brown seaweed. With accolades including the Erasmus Mundus ALFABET Award, ASEA-UNINET Scholarships, National Young Scientist Award 2024, and the Crown Prince CIPTA Award, he has also served as a visiting professor in Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia. Dr. Lim has published 78 journal articles, two research books, and eight book chapters, and is currently an editor for Sains Malaysiana. At TEDxUKM 2025, he will share “Making Science Simpler” — a talk aimed at breaking down complex scientific ideas to connect and inspire people from all walks of life. - 12:12We Perform Ourselves Before We Become Ourselves | Khải Ngô Quang | TEDxYouth PTNKJust as a 35 mm camera captures only what fits inside its viewfinder, society often crops our identities to fit a narrow, “picture-perfect” frame—whether that means speaking with a standard accent, conforming to a cultural script, or hiding parts of ourselves that feel too messy for public display. In this segment, I invite the audience to look beyond the polished image and notice what has been edited out: the rhythms of a hometown dialect, the richness of lived experience, the stories that refuse easy categorisation. Drawing on critical theory and classroom anecdotes, I show how widening the lens—celebrating linguistic quirks, cultural complexity, and personal imperfections—does more than diversify the picture; it restores agency to every speaker, allowing us to reclaim the full, unfiltered narrative of who we are. Hey there! I’m Khai Ngo. I hold a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Sheffield (the UK), where I graduated top of my cohort in 2023. Currently, I’m an English lecturer at a university in Vietnam and also a proud teacher of incredibly talented students at Vietnam National University – High School for the Gifted. For me, language teaching has always been about more than just language skills, it’s about helping people discover who they really are, build confidence, and unlock their potential. I genuinely believe education is at its best when it celebrates diversity, welcomes authenticity, and empowers everyone’s voice. - 16:45Xét nghiệm gen hay xem bói 4.0? | Lợi Lưu | TEDxYouth PTNKIn the same way that every film has its script, you too have your genome that outlines the story of your life. It holds the details of your appearance, personality and even hints of the future ahead of you. In many ways, decoding your genome is like fortune telling 4.0: the geneticists as seers and their computers as Tarot cards. But how exactly does this “black magic” work and what potential does it hold? - 12:35Romanticizing life: Cultivating the skill of being happy | Sabrina Uyên Lưu | TEDxYouth PTNKToday, I want to share something a little more personal — a perspective that has quietly shaped the way I live and create. Life has its inevitable ups and downs, and while it’s easy to believe that happiness is something that just happens when life treats us kindly, that we have to patiently wait for, what if I told you happiness can also be a skill — something you practice, even in the little moments? Through picking out an outfit, sipping coffee at a new café, and laughing at a silly mistake, we can create happiness, not just react to it. This is what I call ????????????? ???? — finding beauty in the ordinary, and turning every day into something worth cherishing. - content creator - shares not only beauty & fashion content, but a way of living, a lifestyle - positivive, feminine, authentic - "big sister" figure This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. - 16:50Η αντιγήρανση είναι στα χέρια μας/Anti-aging is in our hands | Dr. Stathis Gonos | TEDxAthens SalonΤι σημαίνει πραγματικά να ζεις περισσότερο — και καλύτερα; Στην ομιλία του στο TEDxAthens Salon, ο Δρ. What does it really mean to live longer — and better? In this thought-provoking TEDxAthens Salon talk, Dr. Stathis Gonos, a leading researcher in the biology of aging, explores how science and lifestyle intersect to shape not just our lifespan, but our healthspan. From genetics and epigenetics to diet, exercise, and creative living, Dr. Gonos explains how we can slow — and even partially reverse — our biological clock. Because the goal isn’t simply to live to 150, but to make every year healthy, meaningful, and full of life. Dr. Stathis Gonos is the Director of the Institute of Chemical Biology at the National Hellenic Research Foundation. He graduated from the Department of Pharmacy, University of Athens, Greece, obtained his Ph.D. at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Glasgow, Britain and a Docent in Biomedicine at the Orebro University, Medical School, Sweden. He worked at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research/University College in London, Britain and he has been the General Director of the Hellenic Pasteur Institute. His research focuses on the genetic and environmental factors that are linked to human aging and longevity. He has published more than 150 research articles, is author of 14 monographs and patents’ holder that have resulted in the development of novel anti-aging products. Dr. Gonos has been a ”Senior expert” of E.U. in ”Human development and the aging process” and Deputy National Representative of Greece in E.U. in ”Genomics and Biotechnology for Health”. He is past member of the Executive Committee of International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB), the Advanced Course Committee of Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) and the Board of Directors of the ”Society of Free Radicals Research-Europe”.
