Putting women in power might not necessarily ensure a just and fair world. In this talk, Cheuk dives into why allocating more leadership roles for the fairer sex may not deliver a more feminist mode of governing. By examining historical figures such as Queen Elizabeth I, Margaret Thatcher and former PepsiCo COO Indra Nooyi, she explores how inequality and discrimination exists no matter the gender of the person in charge.She unpacks the deeply intertwined relationship between patriarchy and capitalism, looks at how unpaid domestic labour is often delegated to women because it doesn't generate value for the bourgeoise. Cheuk also contrasts the objectification of women in history and advertising, highlighting the progressive strides made by socialist states, where legal equality, literacy and political participation were championed decades ahead of the West. Join this discussion on why true feminism must empower women and why the demolition of destructive hierarchies is essential for real change. Cheuk Ying is a Year 10 student at POWIIS. Ever felt like you do not fit in the mold of the world?In this inspiring talk, Khalifah shares her personal journey of defying expectations. Through her stories, she challenges the narrow boxes society places us in, and showed us how embracing her own uniqueness allowed her to move freely through life, achieving diverse achievements such as being a professional American Football coach, playing professional rugby and football, being an accomplished singer and teaching as well as inspiring thousands of students, both in English classes as well as special needs settings. Ms Bennett is the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) at POWIIS and was previously as well, the Head of Girls' Hall. She is also a recipient of the FOBISIA Fellowship. She had previously taught in Kazakhstan and the USA, where she worked as an English and special education teacher. She enjoys the performing arts, American football, and spending time with her children. In this talk, Craig emphasises the importance of looking beyond the surface and understanding that behaviours, assumptions and physical appearance do not reveal the talents, skills and intelligence of a person. He also shared examples of how success is not linear and that it can be defined in many ways. Mr. Marsden has more than two decades' experience teaching Mathematics, both in UK and abroad. Currently, he is the Head of Mathematics at POWIIS. A former aerospace engineer, he has extensive experience teaching maths, was a school adviser in the Middle East and as an online tutor. Mr Marsden enjoys the outdoors; he enjoys open water swimming, hiking and travelling. He is a fervent supporter of his local football team as well as an avid Formula One fan, and he also enjoys building and painting models from kits.
