Além de cantor, compositor e produtor musical, ele também é professor universitário e acadêmico, atualmente cursando doutorado em educação na Universidade Federal do Amapá, UNIFAP. Zé Miguel gravou oito álbuns solo e dois DVDs entre 1991 e 2021 e participou de um grande número de gravações coletivas, entre elas os álbuns Planeta Amapari (1996), Dança das Senzalas (1998) e o DVD Gente da Mesma Floresta (1997). Nascido em Boa Vista, o poeta, compositor, filósofo e doutor honoris causa da Universidade Estadual de Roraima foi um dos precursores do movimento Roraimeira. Inspirado no Modernismo e na Tropicália, o grupo reuniu artistas locais com a missão de fortalecer e divulgar a produção cultural de Roraima. Desde o seu primeiro livro, Pássaros Ariscos, publicado em 1984, Eliakin vem transformando a natureza, os povos e a diversidade do extremo norte do Brasil em música e poesia.
