Revisiting the Past Glory Through Ancient Architecture | Bhavana Reddy | TEDxThe Gaudium School

Bhavana Reddy takes us on a journey through forgotten forms of architecture and education in India, showing how ancient systems of learning and building hold timeless wisdom. By restoring heritage structures with traditional techniques and materials, she emphasizes that preserving the past helps inspire the present and shape a more meaningful future. Bhavana Reddy is the founder of SSR Architects, specializing in sustainable design, heritage restoration, and eco-friendly materials. She earned her Master’s in Architecture from the University of Michigan where she did her thesis on “Built-Environment for Indian Education System.” Her previous projects use traditional methods like compressed bamboo and lime mortar. A notable project includes a 4000 sq. ft. farm house duplex. SSR Architects focus on sustainability, using local materials and minimizing environmental impact. Their restoration of a 17th-century temple uses lime mortar and jaggery. Bhavana trained in the US and Auroville, promoting eco-conscious design and is a licensed architect from Council of Architecture, India. SSR’s ethos centers on research, revive, and re-invent, blending tradition with modern sustainability to create healthy, user-centered spaces. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
