Becoming Our Truest Selves Through Parenting | Kayla Tychsen | TEDxDabouq
NOTE FROM TED: This talk represents the speaker's personal views and understanding of emotions, parenting, and the nervous system. Several claims around mirror neurons and the polyvagal theory lack sufficient scientific support. We've flagged this talk because it falls outside the content guidelines TED gives TEDx organizers. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdf.Kayla Tychsen explores how parenting offers a profound opportunity for self-discovery and healing when we’re willing to look at the emotions and behavior our children communicate to us. Drawing on the science of mirror neurons and the autonomic nervous system, Kayla unpacks why our children’s emotions often trigger our own emotions, and how these moments can become invitations to understand ourselves.Through storytelling and compassionate reflection, Kayla guides us to see that parenting isn’t just about raising children, it’s about growing and becoming our truest selves. Instead of staying stuck in patterns of reactivity, we can learn to pause, reflect, and respond with awareness and empathy. In doing so, we break cycles, heal past wounds, and create new legacies of emotional safety for our children and for ourselves.Kayla Tychsen is a certified parent coach, educator, and speaker. - 6:24The Danger of Perfectionism | Joli Kwong | TEDxDiscovery College YouthThe Problem with Perfect: Why Perfectionism is Holding Us Back What happens when stress, self-criticism, and high expectations mix together? In this insightful and relatable TEDx talk, a student reflects on their personal struggle with perfectionism—from missed deadlines to overwhelming self-doubt—and how it almost stopped them from giving this very talk. With humor, vulnerability, and practical tips (like the 80/20 rule and power poses!), this talk explores how perfectionism affects our mental health, creativity, and confidence. It’s time to let go of perfect, embrace progress, and remind ourselves that being “good enough” is more than enough. #TEDx #Perfectionism #MentalHealth #StudentVoices #ProgressOverPerfection #Anxiety #YouthTalks #SelfWorth My name is Joli, and I would like to inform others about the definiton of perfectionism, common traits, and how it can spiral. - 6:26The Importance of Mental Health in Today's Society | Kairav Singh | TEDxDiscovery College YouthIt’s 2am, and David can’t sleep. He’s exhausted, anxious, and drowning in self-doubt—sound familiar? In this powerful TEDx talk, we explore the rising mental health crisis among young people, the silent toll of hustle culture, and the role of social media in shaping our emotional wellbeing. Through David’s story, we uncover why mental health deserves the same attention as physical health—and how we can all be part of the change. It’s time to break the silence, challenge the stigma, and reimagine a future where being honest about how we feel is a sign of strength, not weakness. #MentalHealthAwareness #YouthVoices #TEDx #EndTheStigma #Anxiety #Burnout #SocialMedia #Wellbeing #Mindfulness *TEDx Discovery College Youth Final Topic Selections *TEDx Discovery College Youth Final Topic Selections100% C42:F42My name is Kairav, and in this TEDx talk, I want to bring awareness to how important mental health is in today's society, a topic I truly believe is a key and regularly ignored.
