Eski milli voleybolcu olarak Galatasaray Voleybol Takımı’nın kaptanlığını yapmış ve 158 kez milli formayı giymiştir. Sporu bıraktıktan sonra 1992’de Türkiye’nin ilk uluslararası plaj voleybolu organizasyonunu düzenlemiş, ardından Türkiye Voleybol Federasyonu Başkanı olmuştur.Spor yönetimi ve pazarlaması alanında öncü olan Gülüm, Sportsnet Group ve BİLGİSpor’u kurmuş, Octagon Türkiye temsilciliğini yürütmüştür. TMOK Başkanı olarak olimpik ruhu yaygınlaştırmak ve Türkiye’nin uluslararası spor arenasındaki konumunu güçlendirmek için çalışmalarına devam etmektedir.
