The Making of a Criminal: Nature, Nurture, or Neurology? | Ruha Lee | TEDxHAFS Youth

What Makes a Criminal? What turns an ordinary person into someone capable of the unthinkable? This talk explores concepts of alter egos, the case of Billy Milligan, and the roots of crime. It challenges us to imagine justice that understands the offender’s mind while refusing to forget the victim’s voice. She is a criminal psychologist and former prosecutor whose work focuses on the intersection of law and human behavior. Drawing on courtroom experience, she examines the psychological dimensions of criminal responsibility, decision-making, and offender behavior. She is particularly interested in how psychological insights can strengthen legal practice and advance the pursuit of justice. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
