Three Olympics, One Spirit: The Journey of a Champion | Wei Yang | TEDxUIC

From the heartbreak of Athens to the glory of Beijing, Olympic gold medalist Yang Wei shares the story behind his three Olympic journeys—in 2000, 2004, and 2008. In this inspiring talk, he reflects on the perseverance, teamwork, and national pride that carried him through both triumph and defeat. More than medals, Yang reveals what it means to carry the spirit of Team China and how those values continue to shape his life beyond the gymnastics mat. Yang Wei is one of China’s most celebrated gymnasts and a three-time Olympic gold medalist. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he won gold in both the individual all-around and the team final, solidifying his place as a national icon. Yang began his Olympic journey in 2000, winning team gold and all-around silver, and competed again in 2004. Over his career, he amassed numerous international titles and embodied the spirit of Chinese gymnastics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
