- 5:54Artificial Intelligence & Moral Philosophy | Shary Zhang | TEDxYouth@YCYWShanghaiHere, the speaker discusses AI’s role in moral decisions, noting its limitations. Firstly, AI helps analyse choices but cannot fully understand human values. In ethical problems, AI often selects utilitarian options, treating lives as numbers, which risks undermining dignity and normalising harmful logic. True "intelligent" AI should support human judgment, not replace it. While AI assists reasoning, moral decisions require emotions, intuition, and real-life experience. We must balance technology with ethics to ensure that progress respects humanity. Shary is a high school student studying in Shanghai, China. She studies fields like Moral and Scientific Philosophy, Theology, Literature and Art. She has been interested in Art since very young age and began to study philosophy when she was just thirteen years old. Shary enjoys the combination of multiple subjects. She prefers to merge narrative perspective into artworks and establish a unique philosophical way to create spiritual art. Applying multidisciplinary learning approaches, she has developed a more comprehensive and diverse perspectives on the world that she wishes to share with others. - 6:47PowerPoint to Power-Up: Rethinking Learning with AI | Leo Wang | TEDxYouth@YCYWShanghaiGenerative AI is already present in our classrooms—writing essays at a click and grading papers overnight—yet most teachers lack professional training, and students risk trading curiosity for shortcuts. In this talk, 12-year-old Leo Wang shares how one AI-assisted PowerPoint opened his eyes to both the promise and pitfalls of AI in education. He proposes a simple five-point guide—transparency, teacher training, data privacy, bias audits, and equal access—to steer AI from dangerous dependency to a powerful tool for learning. Leo is a student in Chongqing, China with a keen interest in artificial intelligence. He has completed classroom projects that weave AI into learning, including designing a “sustainable creature” model aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Fascinated by technology’s educational potential, Leo explores AI solutions to traditional study challenges and regularly introduces classmates to new tools and responsible prompting techniques. Outside school, he codes for fun, building small games that blend creativity with logic. Through his TEDx talk, Leo hopes to inspire peers and teachers to guide AI responsibly and unlock deeper curiosity. - 6:59Evidence Over Obedience | Ellie Sun | TEDxYouth@YCYWShanghaiHow far would you go when ordered to do something you know is wrong? Studies show that most people will obey—even when it conflicts with their conscience. From psychology labs to real-world tragedies, blind compliance has led to unthinkable harm. But here’s the truth: obedience isn’t inevitable. We always have a choice. This talk isn’t just about why we follow orders—it’s about when we must question them. Because the difference between justice and injustice isn’t just the rules we’re given… it’s whether we dare to challenge them. Ellie is a high student in Yantai, China, with a passion and interest for history, politics, and storytelling. An avid follower of British PMQs, she admires Keir Starmer’s sharp retorts and the power of evidence in debate - a theme that fuels her curiosity. When not analysing UN speeches or watching PMQs, she unwinds by listening to music, writing stories of a two-sided detective, watching movies or finding new books to read. Her favourite PMQs quote - “The public would like to see the receipts, Prime Minister” - reflects her belief in truth over blind obedience. Dr. Mengran Xu earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia and completed her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology at The Ohio State University. Dr. Xu’s research focuses on consumer behavior and attitude change, with a primary emphasis on developing effective persuasion strategies based on the motivations and attributes of attitude formation.
