Experience cinematography form a surreal lens | Sujay Dahake | TEDxVITPune

To enjoy a movie, one has to go beyond logic and get into the emotional realm of the world. The creator of Pune Film Company and the National Award-winning director Sujay Dahake shows us around the world of surreal cinematography, a language of emotions, dreams, and subconscious narration.Sujay presents us with the idea that we are capable of crossing time, reason, and meaning by watching a movie, and in the process, we can experience the emotions that words cannot express, through movies like Phuntroo and Shyamchi Aai (Best Marathi Film, 71st National Film Awards 2023). His discussion examines how surreal cinema creates feelings that transcend way beyond the screen, such as longing, memory, desire, and grief, through the dream-like and symbolic imagery.Sujay Dahake is known to have revolutionized Marathi cinema in an entirely innovative manner. Graduating from Mumbai University with a degree in Film Semiotics and IAFT Cebu with a degree in Filmmaking, he did his first movie, Shala (2012), which won the Silver Lotus in the 59th National Film Awards. His diverse filmography consists of such works as the historical Shyamchi Aai (2023), the sci-fi Phuntroo, and the eco-drama Ajoba. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
