Lessons for a new generation in a new world | Sanchay Gupta | TEDxGIIS Dubai
My exploration of the modern 'Pandemic of Validation Craving' serves to reflect our generation's relentless obsession with trends, brands and social media approval and how it has trapped us in a cycle of comparison and 'Doomshopping.' It critiques how society prioritizes looks and links respect to possessions, showing how even phones can shape our social interactions. Finally, it highlights practical spending and self-awareness strategies like identifying the trigger for your Impulse spending and FOMO and switching back to cash to make most purchases, and suggests embracing individuality to build true self-worth. I am an inquisitive 15-year-old coming from GEN-Z, interested in everything about science, satellites and the human mind. My speech focuses on my observations about people and ongoing trends, specifically on the rise of over-obsession/craze, show-off culture and how it affects the different stakeholders in society. Moreover, I will also discuss about how setbacks are a strategic advantage towards living a more meaningful life. | Rumyana Ivanova | TEDxVitoshaThis talk explores how protecting the peatlands could be a game-changer for the climate. As a child, Rumyana Ivanova dreamed of becoming like the notable British naturalist Gerald Durrell. Over time, she realized the world had changed dramatically and that protecting endangered species was just a small part of a much bigger picture. So she began assembling her own. She is an ecologist because she believes in knowledge and science, and wants to understand the subtle processes in nature that keep the planet in balance. She also holds a medical degree, having seen how disconnection from the Earth makes people more sick and unhappier. As a social entrepreneur, she finds out that sometimes an inspiring product can speak louder than protest or policy. As a volunteer in disaster response, she has come face to face with nature’s power and humanity’s fragility. She believes that common sense and love will triumph over greed and ignorance, and that there’s hope for the Earth we leave to our children. It depends on each of us. So she keeps striving. - 8:08Fashion Reloaded | Pensionist*innenklubs Wien, Austria | TEDxVitoshaKlaudia Krasny and Emira Kundurovic share their journey on stage with a vibrant fashion show celebrating style, confidence, and timeless self-expression. Sixteen models aged 70 and 80+ are redefining the meaning of sustainability and style. They are from the Pensioners’ Clubs of Vienna. For two years in a row, the ladies have delivered a bold and inspiring message by opening Vienna Fashion Week with a remarkable recycled fashion show under the label Fashion Reloaded. Each garment is handmade and deeply personal, often crafted from treasured vintage pieces with family history. In collaboration with the Atelier+ collective, these creations turned legacy clothing into modern, eye-catching designs - proof that creativity has no age limits. Beyond the runway, the show carries a powerful message: sustainability over fast fashion, inclusion across generations, and fashion as a cultural force for change. The initiative, led by Irena Reichel with Atelier+ and supported by the Pensioners’ Clubs Vienna and Häuser zum Leben, reveals how style can evolve into a movement for sustainability and social impact. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
