Everything you should know about sumo wrestling | Shogo O'Connor | TEDxDeerfield
Shogo O’Connor challenges the misportrayal of sumo wrestling in America through humor and personal experience. Born and raised in New York City, Shogo is a junior at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, and he loves it!. At TEDxDeerfield, Shogo will talk about Sumo, an elegant but vicious sport. Unfortunately, they don’t offer Sumo at Deerfield, so he wrestles folk style at school which is the next best thing.Shogo was named after a famous skateboarder in the 70's and skated for a lot of his childhood until he busted his two front teeth. Then, he took up the violin because it was safer. He doesn't play much anymore, but he can probably still squeak out Vivaldi's Winter.Thumbnail image originally posted to Flickr by Gusjer at https://www.flickr.com/photos/20244534@N00/5402557500 licensed under the terms of the cc-by-2.0.This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Today I want to show you the simple switches that let kids like us rescue the planet one drop and one watt at a time. My name is Chen Yining, and my English name is Christine. I'm 10 years old.I love reading and am very good at playing the guzheng. I have a deep love for Chinese culture and hope I can tell Chinese stories in English. - 3:13A Forward Step Against Bullying | Anzhuo LIANG | TEDxPennon Qingdao YouthI once was a small kid in line and the biggest target in the hallway. Words felt heavier than fists, and silence echoed louder than screams. When the stats showed millions bullied each year, I stopped counting bruises and started counting voices. Today I’ll share my true story, real data, and the simple steps we can take right now to turn fear into flowers blooming on both sides. Let’s take one brave step together to protect our minds and each other. My name is Angel and I'm 15 now! I really like music and playing Guzheng This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
- 4:13Technology and Stability | Boyu ZHAI | TEDxPennon Qingdao YouthOn smoggy mornings I count grey buildings instead of clouds, and that makes my heart cough louder than my lungs. So I dug into data, toured computer-controlled factories, and watched exhaust shrink by 57%. Today I’ll share how lithium-ion hearts and smart machines can turn poisoned skies into blue playgrounds for our kids. Technology isn’t just gadgets—it’s our super-tool to steady the planet and let future laughter shine brighter than factory smoke. 2024:Zhai Boyu, a student from Qingdao Hainuo Bilingual School This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. - 4:04Step forward - The impact of plastic pollution on us | HU Guo | TEDxPennon Qingdao YouthI once unwrapped lunch without a second thought, yet every plastic fork I tossed still haunts some beach today. The billions spent cleaning up and the fisheries collapsing are bills our planet can’t keep paying. But despair isn’t on the menu—scientists now serve biodegradable plastic, and I carry my own chopsticks like tiny swords. If we refuse single-use today, Earth won’t wait for tomorrow. Let’s trade convenience for conscience and save the only home we share. - 4:11Take a step forward - Jumping rope and growth | Ziyu SHAO | TEDxPennon Qingdao YouthWhen skipping rope left me aching and afraid of being laughed at, I almost quit—until I counted 800, then 1,000, then 2,000 jumps in a row. That rope taught me that the summit isn’t a place, it’s the decision to take one more jump when quitting feels easier. Today I’ll share how every small count can turn “never” into “done.” My name is Shao Ziyu. I'm 12 years old. I like reading, drawing, and doing sports.
