How Society Influences Our Identity | Ana Sofía Castillo García | TEDxPrepas La Salle Bajio Youth
I’ve been questioning a big part of my life: who am I? And I know I’m not the only one. In this TEDx, I’ll be trying to explain a little bit how every factor in our life influences our identity, personality, and mental health.
Since childhood, our parents started teaching us different things; somehow, a lot of them end up being part of our identity. By the time we grow up, we meet new people, have new experiences, and our interests begin to change.
Every factor in our life, from our family and friends to the TV shows we watch, make a big part of our identity and personality, believe it or not, there is system that categorizes individuals into nine distinct types based on their core motivations, fears, and behaviors, this system is the enneagram.
The enneagram helps us gain a deeper understanding of ourselves. This is important because not knowing who we are and being in this constant questioning can negatively affect our mental health.
Mental health starts developing in childhood, influenced by how we are raised, as we grow, life events change our perspective and mental state. We are in constant change, which also interferes with our thoughts, feelings, etc. I'm Ana Sofía, I'm a high school student passionate about helping others and making awareness about the topics we face in real life. I’ve always had this interest in speaking in public about something that I like, that intrigues me, and I love to share the little I know with others.
