Deprem ve sel gibi olaylar doğal ve normaldir. Önemli olan, afet risklerini tanıyabilmek ve doğru yönetebilmektir. Prof. Dr. Burçak Başbuğ Erkan, 1994 yılında okulumuzdan birincilikle mezun olduktan sonra ODTÜ İstatistik Bölümü’nde lisans eğitimini tamamlamıştır. Akademik hayatına İngiltere’de devam eden Erkan, 2001 yılında 20. yy.da Türkiye'de meydana gelen depremler üzerine yaptığı çalışmasıyla Warwick Üniversitesi’nde yüksek lisansını, 2007 yılında ise Zorunlu Deprem Sigortası hasar modellemesi üzerine hazırladığı teziyle London School of Economics’te doktorasını tamamlamıştır. 2018 yılına kadar ODTÜ Afet Yönetimi Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi’nde müdürlük görevini üstlenmiş, ardından 2018-2020 yılları arasında İngiltere’deki Coventry Üniversitesi’nde Afet ve Acil Durum Yönetimi Yüksek Lisans Programı Anabilim Dalı Başkanı olarak görev yapmıştır. 25 yılı aşkın süredir afet ve risk yönetimi alanında hem Türkiye’de hem uluslararası alanda birçok projede yer alan Erkan, aynı zamanda bu alanda pek çok yayına imza atmıştır. Proje işleyişi, uzun yıllardır insanlık olarak bir üretme biçimimiz. Bu konuşmada "proje kavramı"nın tarihini ve bugünümüze dönüşümünü göreceksiniz. 1986’da Muğla’da doğan Gamze Gonca Özyurt, Gazi Üniversitesi Matematik Öğretmenliği Bölümünden mezun olduktan sonra uzun yıllar Muğla’da öğretmenlik yaptı. Öğretmenlik yaptığı süreçte yüksek lisans eğitimini tamamladı. Öğretmenlik göreviyle eş zamanlı olarak proje yazarlığı ve yönetimi alanında çalışan Gamze Özyurt, Milli Eğitim Müdürlüklerinde proje koordinatörü olarak görev aldı. Valilik bünyesinde farklı alanlarda, daha geniş ölçekli projelerin yazımını ve yönetimini üstlendi. Bu süreçte gençler için çeşitli projeler geliştirdi. Tüm bunlarla birlikte akademik çalışmalarını da sürdürdü. ODTÜ Matematik bölümünde başladığı doktora eğitimine halen Hacettepe Üniversitesi Özel Yetenek Eğitimi Bölümünde devam etmektedir.
