From Fast to Functional Fashion | Tarini Ramchandani | TEDxUniversity High School Youth
What if the t-shirt you’re wearing right now came with a hidden cost of 715 gallons of water and years of toxic waste? Fast fashion is draining our planet’s resources, polluting water, and filling landfills at record speed. In my talk, I’ll share how recycling textiles, and rethinking our habits can turn students like us into leaders of real change. Tarini is a waste warrior, gender advocate, painter, published author and a TEDx speaker. She is a 2023 Diana Award Winner for her work in creating awareness about the need for proper sanitary waste disposal practices and according dignity to waste pickers in India. She distributed more than 1.5 million red dot stickers due to the support extended by her municipal corporator (https://projectashtami.com/). The red dot stickers are used to identify hazardous sanitary waste. She monitizes her art and uses the proceeds to fund groceries for aged waste pickers and fund scholarships for youth in rural Maharashtra, India. When she is not studying, she volunteers in the school library. She is co-secretary to the Peer Tutoring Club and the Treasurer of the Girls Who Code Club in University High School. Despite being shorter in stature, she has never stopped dreaming or striving for the same experiences as others, in both her professional and personal pursuits.Jessica is an advocate for gender and disability equality in society through social and education platforms in Hong Kong. She studied architecture at the University of California at Berkeley, focusing on inclusive spaces and accessible design, before earning an MBA in Finance from New York University. Her background is what led her to an international career in real estate and construction at JLL, having built iconic landmarks throughout New York, Singapore, and now Hong Kong. She is a champion for the collaboration and connection of women, co-founding a number of Women & Allies Networks in Hong Kong.As an extreme sports fanatic, Jessica has proven that her perceived physical limitations are no match for her tenacity. Feručo Lazarić živi u Svetvinčentu, a oslijepio je prije trideset godina u 35. godini života. Nakon pretrpljenog šoka odlučio je otkriti novi, drukčiji svijet. Putuje više nego kada je vidio, počeo je planinariti, jahati konja, voziti tandem-bicikl, skijati, trčati... Popeo se na Kilimandžaro, Ande, Himalaju, Olimp, Triglav, Musalu i mnoge druge niže visine po Hrvatskoj za što je dobio Najviše priznanje HPS-a za obiđenih 150 vrhova.
