In this talk, El Selu, one of Cádiz's most renowned Carnival authors, takes a personal journey through his groups, illustrating with interesting anecdotes that clearly demonstrate his comedic talent. José Luis García Cossío, conocido como El Selu, nació en Cádiz en 1962 y es una de las figuras más emblemáticas del Carnaval de Cádiz. Comenzó su carrera como comparsista en 1980, pero fue en 1989 cuando debutó en chirigotas con Los Sanmolontropos Verdes, alcanzando la final del COAC. En 1992 alcanzó la fama con El que la lleva la entiende (conocida como Los borrachos), con la que consiguió su primer primer premio, gracias a un estilo humorístico centrado en personajes muy definidos.A lo largo de su trayectoria ha ganado cinco primeros premios en el COAC: El que la lleva la entiende (1992), Con el sudor del de enfrente (Los ricos) (1993), Los lacios (1995), Lo que diga mi mujer (2004) y Si me pongo pesao me lo dices(2016). Otras agrupaciones muy recordadas, aunque no premiadas, son Las marujas, Los enteraos o Grupo de guasa.Además de su faceta carnavalera, ha sido guionista de Los Morancos y colaborador en radio. En 2008 recibió el Antifaz de Oro. En 2025 regresó con fuerza con la chirigota Apartamentos turísticos Juani Wainjaus, parodiando el fenómeno de la turistificación gaditana. Shiffman warns that Greenville’s labor-driven economic path is outdated in an era of AI, where capital increasingly replaces labor. He urges local leaders, educators, and entrepreneurs to act now—by building innovation labs, launching startups, and recruiting AI firms. Greenville, he argues, is ideally positioned to lead the next generation of advanced manufacturing by focusing on building happy employees. I believe that small groups of creative and dedicated people change the world. I seek to work with and to empower others working to help make our communities freer and safer in a complex, coercive, and violent world. I have served in war and traveled the world, studied Economics human behavior, and worked at the pinnacles of power in government and in industry.I co-founded two AI companies when I saw an opportunity join behavioral science with AI innovations coming from computer science to empower those on the front lines of combatting coercion, fraud, and violence in the military, law enforcement, and in financial institutions.I love to teach, write, and engage with curious people.
