The Apathy Paradox | Paul Heller | TEDxSt Georges Cologne Youth

Generation Z faces a central paradox: despite being more informed and connected than any generation before, we often feel powerless to create real change. An oversaturation of global crises — amplified by social media — has led not to greater action, but to widespread apathy. By examining how digital activism often substitutes real-world engagement, I challenge my generation to move beyond performative gestures and reclaim the power of small, tangible steps. Paul Heller, Head Prefect at St. George’s The British International School, has woven leadership, ambition, and a passion for global issues into every part of his journey. From shaping student life on the Student Council to leading the Model United Nations Club, Paul consistently transforms ideas into action. His experiences — from school events to championing youth initiatives — have shaped him into a confident, thoughtful leader. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
