Teddy: What If Your Phone Could Hug You Back | Esmee Ho | TEDxYouth@YCYWShanghai
In an ever-changing world, self-care remains a sensitive topic within society, leading to many tools becoming inaccessible or overly complex. The speaker aims to change that by bridging the gap between emotional needs and accessible support through Teddy, an app she created with the ultimate goal of improving users' mental wellbeing. Esmee is a high school student studying in Hong Kong, China. In a previous project, her interest in mental health and self-care inspired her to design Teddy, a lifestyle app that aims to make mental wellness accessible, comforting, and stigma-free. Esmee has participated in the HKNETEA Student Innovation Award competition in 2023. She has a deep passion for establishing tools that make people feel seen, heard, and supported. - 19:09Human Trafficking: You are not alone in your pain | Sharon Kamukama | TEDxMabletonVulnerability. That’s the open door. We all want to belong, to feel seen, valued, and loved—and human traffickers know it. They don’t just exploit people. They study them. They know how to turn a human being into a commodity. They know how to create trauma bonds so strong, victims can’t tell the difference between manipulation and affection. In her TEDx talk, Sharon Kamukama reveals the brutal simplicity of it all: supply and demand. That’s the engine of this modern-day slavery. Whether it’s a lonely teenage girl starved of affection or a mother desperate to feed her child, traffickers zero in on their vulnerability like sharks to blood. And that’s what keeps the cycle going.
