In his TEDx Talk, The Empty Chair, Abhimanyu Kanodia shares life-changing moments from his journey, using the chair as a constant metaphor for absence, growth, and rediscovery. Through his cinematic lens, he reminds us that life is a montage of memories, fleeting fragments stitched together like frames of a film. Abhimanyu Kanodia, born in Ajmer, Rajasthan, is an award-winning film director and writer. A Chartered Accountant turned filmmaker, he graduated in Film Direction from Whistling Woods International, Mumbai, in 2015.
His debut short film Kathakaar, starring Piyush Mishra, achieved international acclaim as a Semi-Finalist at the 43rd Annual Student Academy Awards (Oscars 2016) and was a Finalist at the Jio Filmfare Short Film Awards .
His body of work includes acclaimed films such as Main Thansu Dur Nahi, Jangle Bells, Queen of Hearts, MTV Abhineta, Tape, Sau Gram Zindagi, and the web series Firsts: Season 5 for Dice Media. His films have won over 30 awards and been officially selected at more than 65 national and international film festivals, with a combined online viewership exceeding 30 million.
Abhimanyu’s first featurette documentary, MainThansu Dur Nahi (2023), on Maharaja Hanwant Singh of Jodhpur, was officially selected at the prestigious 18th Mumbai International Film Festival This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
