- 15:37Swizzle: The Way of the Change Agent | Jim Salvucci | TEDxClarkstownThis TEDx talk uses the metaphor of a bartender “swizzling” drinks to explore the power of positive disruption. The speaker contrasts two types of people: swizzlers, who shake up the status quo with purpose to create progress, and pot stirrers, who provoke conflict for selfish or chaotic reasons. Through personal stories, like integrating a high school stage crew and revitalizing a Baltimore neighborhood, the speaker illustrates how swizzlers challenge unjust systems and spark change despite resistance. Drawing on figures like Sojourner Truth, Greta Thunberg, Gandhi, and Bob Dylan, the talk honors those who disrupt comfort zones to improve society. The speaker urges the audience to support real changemakers and, if they themselves are swizzlers, to persist. In short: the world needs more thoughtful disruption, and swizzlers, to keep moving forward. Dr. Jim Salvucci served 30 years as an English professor and university executive before transitioning to the corporate world, where he now helps leaders excel by aligning personal values with organizational missions. As a seasoned leadership expert and president of Guidance for Greatness, Jim offers his extensive experience to professionals across industries. His background in writing and communication combined with his passion for teaching has made him a sought-after speaker and podcaster worldwide. With a Ph.D. in English from the University of Toronto and multiple coaching and leadership and coaching certifications from institutions as diverse as the Tiny Habits Academy and Harvard University, Jim continues to empower emerging leaders with practical, values-driven leadership strategies.
