- 13:51Humus - the basis of life | Franz Rösl | TEDxOTHRegensburgWhy is "soil" left over from our bodies when we die? Why is the health of all life dependent on the health of our soil? Let us take you on a journey, exciting and simple at the same time. Learn more about humus, the "living" part of the soil, and its direct influence on us humans and on all life.Only the thin living layer of our earth, the humus-containing soil, provides us with 95% of our food. Scientists can use human blood to trace which field the food we ate before came from. This makes it easier to understand the connection between soil health and our health. A deep look into the humus shows how complex and diverse soil is and why we can understand it better if we see it as a living organism. Many microorganisms, of which only 2% are known according to current detection methods, live in symbiosis with the roots of plants and maintain a healthy soil structure. These symbioses are disrupted by soil compaction, chemical fertilizers and pesticides in particular. The soil structure recedes and humus is broken down. The soil clumps together and can absorb less and less water. As a direct effect, we are experiencing reduced groundwater recharge, increasing pollutants in the groundwater, increasing flooding, reduced crop yields and a sharp decline in the content of valuable ingredients in food. When we understand the central role that healthy soil plays in our lives and how it is being damaged by humans on a large scale, we realize how important it is to preserve humus and promote its development. This is our responsibility. Every individual can contribute to the health of the soil. Healthy, living and humus-rich soils store and filter our water and produce our food. We need healthy water and healthy soil for our health. Life only comes from life - and healthy soil is the basis for this. Franz Rösl has been Managing Director of the Rösl Group in the second generation since 2022. The graduate civil engineer is responsible for over 122 employees at three locations. Earthworks, demolition, transportation, waste disposal and recycling as well as stone and earth form the service portfolio of the company group. Franz Rösl has managed the Liemehna compost and soil plant for over 25 years and still conducts research into composts. He is intensively involved with humus qualities and the effect of natural substances on health processes. His vocation is to promote healthy soil as the basis for the health of water, plants, animals and people. Until today he works with numerous organizations, scientists and practitioners. As a speaker on the subject of soil health for over 20 years and as the founder and chairman of the „Interessengemeinschaft gesunder Boden e. V.“, Franz Rösl was awarded the 1st Environmental Prize of the City of Regensburg for the „IG gesunder Boden“ in 2018. - 16:52Exploring the dynamics of our brain | Markus Goldhacker | TEDxOTHRegensburgOur mind remains one of the greatest mysteries-far from linear, it thrives on synchronization and connectivity. In fact, much of what our brain accomplishes happens not in isolation, but through intricate, coordinated collaboration among its regions. Even more fascinating, our brain function reveals an unexpected quality: alongside its complex connectivity, it unfolds in discrete, temporal patterns. But why do we observe these remarkable dynamics in the brain? In this TEDx Talk, we’ll embark on an exploration of how these hidden brain patterns emerge and evolve. Leveraging advanced neuroimaging techniques and cutting-edge artificial intelligence, researchers are beginning to unravel the complex interactions that govern our mental processes. How can we measure the ebb and flow of connection and these discrete rhythms? And in what ways do these interactions and temporal patterns coalesce into the broader dynamics that define how we think, feel, and behave?Building on this foundation of discovery, we naturally turn our attention to what these insights enable us to do. Beyond mere observation, we will delve into the realm of neurofeedback- a revolutionary approach that translates the brain’s unconscious workings into sensory feedback, empowering us to shape our own neural activity. When we combine the complex temporal patterns of brain activity with neurofeedback, a crucial question emerges: can we harness our growing understanding of these dynamics to actively influence our own mental states?Looking ahead, we’ll speculate on the role of predictability in brain dynamics and explore how artificial intelligence might eventually help us decode our own “alphabet of thought.” Imagine a future where AI not only reads our brain patterns but also helps us shape them - this might indeed be a good thing - maybe. Markus Goldhacker studied Physics and Psychology at the University of Regensburg, focusing on neuroscience and artificial intelligence. In his PhD, he explored how the synchrony of brain activity changes over time, uncovering hidden patterns and developing new methods to analyze them. He then worked as a Data Scientist at the Neurosurgery Department of the University Hospital of Regensburg, analyzing functional brain scans of brain tumor patients. Later, he worked in the mechanical engineering industry, developing data-driven models for predictive maintenance. Since September 2020, he has been a Professor of Data Science at OTH Regensburg in the mechanical engineering department and the Regensburg School of Digital Sciences. His current research delves into Brain-Computer Interfaces and Neurofeedback, exploring how these technologies can enable people to self-regulate their brain function. - 13:41Passion to Global Dream | A Dream Weaver’s Tale | Jobayer Hossain Shuvo | TEDxMUBC YouthEvery great story begins with a spark—and for Jobayer, that spark was a camera lens. What started as curiosity soon transformed into a burning passion, and what seemed like just a hobby in 2011 has now grown into a global journey that carries both his struggles and triumphs. From sleepless nights of learning to perfect a single shot to standing on international stages with 72 awards in his name, Jobayer’s story isn’t just about photography—it’s about daring to dream when everything seems uncertain. In this talk, Jobayer pulls back the curtain on the world behind the frames we admire. He doesn’t only share the glossy highlights, but also the weight of rejection, the sting of doubt, and the relentless obstacles that almost broke him. Yet in every struggle, he found a story; in every setback, he discovered a frame worth keeping. Photography, for him, was never about luxury—it was survival, expression, and rebellion all at once.Dream Weaver, the company he built from scratch, embodies this philosophy. It’s not just a business—it’s a canvas where he and his team transform fleeting human emotions into timeless visual stories. Jobayer’s vision has redefined wedding photography in Bangladesh, proving that it can be more than documentation—it can be storytelling, art, and even revolution. His laid-back yet determined spirit shows us that success is not about rushing ahead, but about pausing, observing, and capturing the unnoticed moments that hold the deepest truths. What makes Jobayer’s journey truly inspiring is not only the global recognition he’s earned, but also the human side of it: the joy he finds in a smile through his viewfinder, the tears he has shed during times of failure, and the quiet pride of knowing that his dream has created opportunities for others. His talk is a testament to the fact that chasing passion is never easy—it comes with chaos, fear, and countless sacrifices—but those who dare to pursue it can transform that passion into a movement that resonates far beyond themselves.A Dream Weaver’s Tale is more than the story of a photographer—it is the story of how resilience, creativity, and heart can turn one person’s passion into a global dream. It is an invitation for every listener to pick up their own “lens,” whatever it may be, and see how their struggles, too, can weave into something beautiful. Jobayer is an IUT graduate who happens to be the founder of Dream Weaver. Jobayer started his wedding photography career back in 2011.He is an amazing storyteller who loves to capture eye catching portraits, which makes his work unique. His clients love his laid back easy-going attitude towards wedding photography. He has won 72 International awards on Wedding Photography from WPPI (USA), MPA(UK), PPAC (China), WPPA (Malaysia), AsiaWPA(Hongkong) which makes him the highest International Award-Winning Wedding Photographer of Bangladesh. He has always demonstrated his aptitude and passion for creating and building, hence the idea of Dream Weaver. He is a savvy negotiator with strong business development and relationship building skills. Through strategic foresight, drive, and determination he built a strong foundation for this company. Also, he indulges himself in leading and motivating subordinates to advance employee engagement develop a high performing managerial team.
